“Hope Deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
Remember when you were a child and you dreamed almost endlessly. There was no dream too big or far fetched. For most of us, when we were dreaming we experienced the happiest moments of our lives. What happened to those dreams?
I talk to many people today and when I ask them what is their dream they rarely have an answer. Most tell me about obtaining better employment and few tell me what their goals are for the upcoming year, but for the most part they have given up on the ability to see life for more than what they are currently experiencing.
A dream deferred causes an internal malfunction.
The above passage of scripture tells us that when our hopes, dreams, and desires are deferred or unfulfilled something happens on the inside of us that causes us to malfunction. I believe the pain of unfulfilled dreams coupled with the reality of circumstances hides the truth of unlimited potential within. As a result, we give up on dreams and diminish our capacity to believe. The inability to believe is a sickness that ties the hands of God from producing His perfect will in our life. Remember, all things are possible for them who believe.
The ability to dream is a key to fulfilling destiny.
Proverbs 13:12 also tells us that when my dreams come true, when I obtain my desires and aspirations, it becomes like a tree of life. A tree is a plant of resources. Depending on its purpose it can provide fruit, produce shade, fill the air with oxygen, or just radiate peace from its aesthetic appeal. In other words, my dreams don’t just bring me joy, but it becomes a resource for others.
Pursue Your Dreams.
Through experience, I have found that I became a tree a life the moment I decided to pursue them not just when they became my reality. Pursuing your dreams trigger a release of potential that attracts two types of people: those that you need and those that need you. Pursuing your dreams is also essential to experience a sense of fulfillment in life.
So take the time to dream again. If you have given up on your them ask the Holy Spirit to resurrect those Godly dreams of your youth. Cultivate relationships with people that expand your capacity to believe and frequent places that spark your desires and stimulate your imagination.
Dreaming is free so you might as well do it often. But don’t stop there, make a decision to pursue your dreams, then watch yourself transform into a tree of life.
